Junie B. Jones - Counting Money

Book Description:
What's the bestest job ever? A beauty shop guy, that's what! And Junie B. Jones is going to be one when she grows up. But first she needs a little practice. And a few volunteers. Like her bunny slippers. And her dog. And maybe even...herself?  Is Junie B. on her way to a great new career? Or is she about to have the worst hair day ever?

While reading this funny Junie B. Jones book to my students- I came up with a brainstorm & couldn't wait to get home to CREATE!
While growing up, I always wanted to be a beautician! Now I can "pretend" at school while teaching money! What fun!

These are the specials.

Each dab of hair color is worth 5 cents.
Students also suggested that we say "feathers" instead of "highlights". One student said, " The Presidents are getting ready for Thanksgiving!"
Whatever works! I don't care what they use to remember the values, coins and how to count money!

This hair special is called The Washington.
You get 5 dabs (highlights or feathers) for 25 cents.
This hair special is called The Roosevelt.
You get 2 dabs (highlights or feathers) for 10 cents.

This hair special is called The Jefferson.
You get 1 dab (highlight or feather) for 5 cents.

This special is called The Lincoln.
You get a free touch up, wash or style.
NO highlights.

Students count money and write 2 ways.
Students count by fives every time they touch a highlight or feather!

I did not include the highlights for students to draw them or to count the money without them.

Reverse thinking- students come up with what specials client could purchase.
